If you’re dropping by this page then you must be one of the awesome bods who attended Genesis Camp 2015… good on you!
Let’s cut to the chase… you want to download my Genesis starter theme including Bourbon, Neat, Bitters and Refills. You might also want my DesktopServer blueprint for getting up and running with the starter theme.
Unfortunately you’ve missed the boat…The starter theme and blueprint were only available for a limited time. Development is carrying on apace and I’m excited to release a much improved version of both tools shortly.
If you want to be notified when the completed theme is available, sign up to the email newsletter at the bottom of this page.
The below information will remain here for the time being, for those of you who downloaded the work-in-progress theme and blueprint.
Because I didn’t want to freely distribute the Genesis Framework parent theme (which is a premium StudioPress product) I’ve removed it from the blueprint. For the blueprint to function as intended, you’ll need a copy of the Genesis Framework. Simply unzip the blueprint, drop your unzipped
genesis folder into the
/wp-content/themes folder, zip the blueprint back up and drop it into your DesktopServer
The starter theme demonstrated during my talk and available for download here is a work-in-progress. Although it is fully functional there are some aspects that aren’t finished to my satisfaction. Once they are, the theme will be released as a premium theme. For now, I’m happy for you to download it for free. Some of the parts that aren’t polished include:
- Not all Refills components are incorporated as yet
- It is not translation ready
- I haven’t fully audited it for accessibility (although some work has been done already)
- The functions.php file needs splitting up
- I have removed my Gulp recipe and installed node modules from the theme zip but they are present in the blueprint if you choose to download that
If you have any feedback, or if you make use of these tools I’d love to hear about it. Again, just message me via social media.
If you want to be kept up to date with progress on the starter theme you can register your email address below.
Wondering what this is all about?
If you’ve found your way here by accident then let me fill you in…
Genesis Camp 2015 was an international, online event for WordPress / Genesis developers and business people. I gave a talk on using the Bourbon Sass / CSS framework with WordPress and Genesis. It was entitled Hot Toddy – A WordPress and Genesis Workflow with Bourbon. Hilarious.
During the talk I demonstrated how quickly you could build and customise a WordPress / Genesis website and deploy it live to the web. I used a starter theme and website blueprint to get up and running and the Bourbon framework and its constituent modules to customise the theme.
It is the starter theme and blueprint that I make available above.
